Senior Cathodic Protection Technician
We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Cathodic Protection Engineer to work within the Integrity Team to support the operation, testing, maintenance and improvement of Cathodic Protection (CP) and corrosion control systems on operated and maintained assets.
This will include:
* CP and coatings on over 1200km of buried, high-pressure, cross-country pipelines in the UK
* CP of storage tank and plant piping for operated terminals, including top-tier COMAH installations.
* CP and coatings on equipment at approximately 20 other high-hazard installations across the UK
Location: Southern Region sites – (Milton Keynes to Gatwick) – Must have full Driving license
Office: Hemel Hempstead – Hybrid 2 days office
Salary: £38,000 + OT

Main Duties & Responsibilities (typical day to day):
This is a varied role which encompasses the following core areas and associated work activities:
Routine maintenance & inspection
* Plan and conduct routine monitoring of CP and corrosion control systems for pipeline, tanks and plant piping
* Identify over-running routine surveys and assist with a catch-up plan
* Use CP data base including importing data, verify / check imported data, export data / surveys, update test points and check against KPI
* Follow CMMS including scheduling work, closing tasks and creating new tasks / faults as required
* Data analysis & reporting to assist the Lead CP Engineer and wider Integrity Team
* Procurement of CP materials, parts and tools
* Management of CP stores
* Maintain good relations with all parties including landowners, operations and engineering team, contractors and clients
Ad hoc & Reactive Activities
* Identify faults / issues and performing initial troubleshooting and methodical and structured fault finding to resolve or better determine the issue to allow more detailed follow up investigations
* Maintain, repair and install replacement CP equipment
* Perform start-up and commissioning of CP systems / equipment
* Use specialist knowledge to adjust CP system outputs / setpoints as required to optimise protection levels
* Perform and support more specialised CP surveys (e.g. CIPS, DCVG, PCM, Interference Testing / Investigation, Current Drain Test etc)
* Perform additional testing and activities as required by operations and engineering departments
* Support the wider integrity team and help identify areas for improvement within as well supporting with roll-out of new procedures / processes
Projects
* Assist in preparation of project documentation and following project processes
* Assist in planning project resources such as arranging contractors, procuring material & tools and by preparing specific plans and programmes to ensure site work is carried out in accordance with procedures and to the client’s satisfaction. During works ensure that these plans are kept up to date and that the project engineer is kept fully informed
* Act as the Integrity Team’s Field Engineer for works within high-hazard sites or pipeline locations in accordance with project documentation and relevant company, client, national and international standards.
* Ensure good and safe engineering practices are maintained in accordance with HSSEQ safety procedures
* Sketch / mark up of CP drawings based on project requirements / as-built details
Work Experience
* Minimum of five years’ experience in a corrosion management / CP role in a relevant industrial environment.
* Experienced of working on construction projects and the supervision of such
* A good understanding of the UK pipeline industry or similar high hazard industries
Requirements (qualifications, education, experience and/or skills):
Essential:
* Educated to a minimum GCSE or equivalent level
* Valid Driving Licence
* ICORR Level 2 Certification (or equivalent)
