On behalf of Great British Energy, we are looking for a Portfolio Planner (Inside IR35) for a 12 month contract. This is a hybrid working role (three days per week office based - Aberdeen).
Great British Energy will be a publicly owned, operationally independent energy company, designed to drive clean energy deployment, boost energy independence, create jobs and ensure UK taxpayers, billpayers and communities reap the benefits of clean, secure, homegrown energy. Setting up Great British Energy is one of government's first steps for change and we will do this in a way that means it will have both an early impact and long-term success.
Through its five functions (Project development, Project investment and ownership, Local Power Plan, Supply chains and working with Great British Nuclear), Great British Energy will speed up the deployment of mature and new technologies, as well as local energy projects, to support the government's aim of decarbonising our electricity system by 2030 whilst also ensuring we can meet future demand as we further decarbonise the economy.
To this end and as an example of what it can achieve, we have already agreed a major partnership between Great British Energy and The Crown Estate to accelerate deployment and support UK supply chains.
Great British Energy will work collaboratively with industry, local authorities and communities, and other public sector organisations such as the National Wealth Fund, to spread skilled jobs and investment across the country. Great British Energy will be backed by a capitalisation of £8.3 billion of new money over this Parliament.
While we go through the process of setting Great British Energy as a publicly owned energy company, these roles will initially be part of the Civil Service, however, will then be transferred to Great British Energy once the Great British Energy Bill becomes law and the company has the necessary procedures and systems in place to employ people directly so we encourage applications from a wide a diverse range of backgrounds.

Job Purpose:
This role will be key to building the project management foundations and processes to enable GBE to mature its organisation and develop its key functions. Successful candidates will be proactive, methodical and able to work creatively and collaboratively to develop robust project management foundations.
We are looking for experienced project delivery professionals, who are able to work very flexibly to meet the project needs of the very new organisation whilst it matures. We expect this will require the successful candidate to be adaptable in their approach.
As a Portfolio Planner, your main responsibilities will be:
* Supporting G7 Project managers and PMO managers in establishing project management and portfolio management processes into the organisation
* Supporting key project and portfolio processes particularly planning, together with monitoring and reporting, risk & issue management and governance.
* Coordinate with other functions and stakeholders such as finance and commercial to prepare reports.
* Preparing the information required for regular meetings as part of GBE's reporting cycle.
* Deliver regular progress reports on activities, including relevant risks and issues to the Project Manager, including the provision of evidence to support the programme deliverables.
* Collate, format and distribute data to support project requirements, cascading to internal and external parties where appropriate.
Essential:
* Have experience in delivering either complex or high-risk projects or portfolios within an agreed time, cost and quality constraint.
* Significant experience of project planning, including the creation of multi-level plans. You will be able to demonstrate your experience in using project planning tools, e.g. MSProjects.
* You will be adaptable when applying your knowledge of project management tools and methodologies, capable of designing a project structure and organisation to meet the requirements of the project according to its point in the lifecycle.
* Be experienced and credible in dealing with a broad and complex range of stakeholders both in writing and in person, with the confidence to engage with senior officials.
* You will have a proactive stakeholder engagement approach, seeking out opportunities to effectively communicate and influence, and be used to operating with a high degree of autonomy where there is ambiguity and change in a project.
* Have practical experience in actively managing project risks and issues, able to make decisions, engage in dialogue on risk management strategy, and demonstrate a level of skill beyond simply 'managing a process'.
* You will be able to apply your skills to a range of risks, with a sound understanding of how they relate to wider strategy.
* You will have a recognised accreditation in professional project management.
