Overview
The Haemoglobinopathies and Apheresis service is based at St Mary\'s Hospital, a tertiary referral centre which admits children and young people with acute and complex conditions. The post holder will be part of a wider multi-disciplinary team, bringing the service values of three hospitals into the centre of practice. We have an opportunity for a motivated and experienced nurse to join a team of Specialist Consultants, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Nurse Specialists. This role is open to an experienced paediatric or adult-trained nurse with a minimum of 4 years Apheresis experience who can provide visible and supportive clinical expertise and leadership to the team. The nurse-led Apheresis unit is highly specialised in the treatment of sickle cell disease, thalassemia, bone marrow transplant and has one of the largest paediatric Apheresis services in the UK for birth to 19 years of age.
The post holder will work with service users to plan, assess and manage care using evidence-based clinical knowledge. Clinical nurse specialists promote a positive learning culture and act as role models to others in the team. They will contribute to updating clinical guidelines and be actively involved in quality improvement, supporting the wider team to create new guidance as the service expands.
Main duties
* The Band 7 Apheresis CNS leads and coordinates paediatric Apheresis education and practice development related to Haemoglobinopathies and Apheresis procedures.
* Be the expert in applying apheresis procedures performed at St Mary\'s Hospital.
* Proficiency in cannulation and venepuncture, including ultrasound-guided cannulation.
* Ensure the service meets and maintains HTA and JACIE requirements in collaboration with the clinical director, transplant programme lead nurse for Apheresis, the apheresis nursing team and quality managers.
* Coordinate procedures within the Apheresis Service, including automated red cell exchanges (RbCX), therapeutic plasma exchanges (TPE), peripheral blood stem cell collection (PBSC), donor lymphocyte collection (DLI), and granulocyte collection; ensuring high standards of care and efficient patient pathways.
* Provide specialist nursing advice to support high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi-professional team, in line with local and national protocols.

* RN Child/RSCN/RN Adult
