Overview
Consultant Ophthalmologist with a subspecialty interest in Glaucoma. Permanent consultant post available from August 2026.
Shift Pattern
Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.
Job Duties
* Provide eye care service across multiple hospital sites, including sessions at Inverclyde Royal Hospital and New Victoria Hospital.
* Participate in on‑call duties (1 in 33 consultations) for the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area.
* Deliver DCC, administrative and SPA sessions under a 10 PA contract.
Requirements & Eligibility
* Full GMC registration and licence to practise; eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register.
* UK‑trained: evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or within six months of confirmed entry.
* CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route: eligible for substantive post once CESR is awarded.
* Equivalent training for non‑UK doctors.
* Fellowship training or equivalent postgraduate experience in glaucoma.
* Leadership and service development experience; research, audit evidence preferable.
* Teaching and training experience delivering formal or informal teaching.
* Professional attributes: effective multidisciplinary teamwork, strong organisational skills, willingness to work flexibly.
Additional Information
Up to two EPA’s may be available to undertake additional outpatient, procedure sessions or management activity. All newly qualified Consultants initially receive a minimum of one Core Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) which includes CPD, audit, clinical governance, appraisal, revalidation, job planning and management meetings. The SPA will be reviewed within six months and revised upwards if additional responsibilities are agreed.
