Job Title: Metrology - Manufacturing Engineer

An opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineer - Measurement Development to join the Rolls-Royce Defence Future Programmes team in Bristol.
The Global Combat Air Programme is a multinational initiative led by the United Kingdom, Japan and Italy to jointly develop a sixth-generation stealth fighter. This role presents an exciting opportunity to work at the frontline of our manufacturing technology as we create, develop and adapt manufacturing processes that will be introduced and used for years to come to deliver the GCAP power and propulsion system.
You will be responsible for developing and delivering metrology capability across a number of novel engine components. You will work closely with digital manufacturing colleagues, senior specialists, design and manufacturing engineers to lead the development and validation of automated metrology programming capability using Model Based Definitions. This offers a fantastic opportunity to develop a career with a high impact and high visibility across the Rolls-Royce group as this is an emerging capability within the business.
You will ensure that new products are measured accurately, reliably and cost effectively, working with a range of stakeholders to ensure inspection methods are available on time whilst ensuring they are robust, capable and that cost and quality are optimised by design.
What you will be doing
* Write, validate and deploy measurement programmes in Zeiss Inspect, Polyworks and other software platforms.
* Ensure measurement system analysis is carried out effectively within Rolls-Royce and supply chain facilities.
* Lead the selection, justification, acquisition and commissioning of new product verification equipment. Drive continuous improvement and process control activities.
* Contribute to internal and external global communities of practice and collaborate with other specialists across the company to develop strategy, processes, methods and standards in metrology and product verification.
* Engage in Design for Manufacture to ensure future engine parts make full use of Model Based Definition to automate creation and change of measurement processes.
Who we’re looking for

To be successful in this role you will need to have:
* Professionally qualified engineer with a degree, HND or equivalent and with a deep understanding of manufacturing measurement. Rolls-Royce uses the National Metrology Skills Alliance standards for metrology. You will be able to show experience that demonstrates you have skills at Level 2 or above in most of the categories of NMSA 1 and NMSA 2.1.
* Experience of creation of digital measurement programmes preferably in one or more of the following software packages: Polyworks, Zeiss Inspect.
* A high level of computer literacy and digital manufacturing experience including familiarity with CAD, preferably Siemens NX.
* A strong technical engineering background, broad experience of manufacturing, design for manufacture, build in quality and inspection planning, as well as experience of technology development and product introduction methodologies such as APQP and PPAP.
To work for Rolls-Royce you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
