Job Description
In late January, we announced that Bridgefield Capital signed an agreement to acquire Philips’ Emergency Care business, which includes leading brands and products such as HeartStart AEDs, Intrepid and DFM100 monitor defibrillators, Tempus monitor and Tempus ALS systems, and Corsium and ECI informatics solutions. We expect the transaction to close at the end of 2025.
With Bridgefield’s support and building on our 40+ year legacy of growth and innovation in emergency medical technology, the Emergency Care business will continue passionately pursuing our mission of saving lives, lowering healthcare costs, and advancing resuscitation science while serving the public access AED, EMS, military, and hospital markets.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to join the Emergency Care Professional business and collaborate within a global team designing and developing advanced life support solutions (e.g., patient monitors, defibrillators).
As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead the development and maintenance of embedded software for EC Pro products, working closely with internal teams and external partners. Your responsibilities will cover the full software lifecycle, emphasizing quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
* Technical leadership and oversight: Support the formulation and implementation of the software vision, direction, and strategy to meet customer needs. Provide hands-on guidance and support within the team.
* Team management: Build and maintain competencies, foster continuous improvement and innovation, and promote an inclusive, collaborative environment.
* Embedded Software Development: Lead design, development, and sustainment of embedded software in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
* System and Software Support: Oversee technical support for customer and product investigations, defect resolution, and lifecycle management.
* Process and Documentation: Contribute to software process controls, design documentation, risk management, and CAPA activities, with a solid understanding of QMS.
* Engineering Excellence: Apply rigorous engineering practices focusing on risk management and safety.
* Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant standards like IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-2-xx, IEC 62304, and quality procedures for regulatory approvals.
* Cross-functional Collaboration: Foster relationships across R&D, PMO, product management, operations, regulatory, and quality teams, especially with software subcontractors.
* Partnerships and execution: Facilitate collaboration with partners, ensuring efficient progress.
Work Environment
* We believe in working together effectively. For this role, this means working in our Farnborough, Hampshire office at least 3 days per week.
Ideal Candidate
* Engineering degree in a relevant technical field.
* Experienced people manager with broad experience in software collaboration with partners.
* Proven experience leading software and firmware development in embedded Linux, preferably in medical devices.
* Knowledge of embedded electronic/software systems, communication technologies, software design, APIs, IEC 62304.
* Experience within an ISO 14971 quality system, including product approvals for EU-MDD, EU-MDR, and FDA.
* Flexible attitude, capable of guiding teams through dynamic environments.
* Clear and concise communication skills for stakeholder presentations.
Desirable
Knowledge of IEC 60601 and AAMI EC standards for medical devices.
