Band 7 Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist
The CNS contributes to the provision of specialist palliative care in the acute hospital setting for patients facing life-limiting illnesses, within the remit of the multidisciplinary team. They accept patient referrals based on agreed criteria and manage their own caseload with support from the Lead Nurse and Consultant Nurse. They provide advice, education, and support to patients, their carers, and other health and social care professionals. They also contribute to the development and smooth operation of the service. The post holder will work within professional, departmental, and Trust boundaries to deliver patient-centered, seamless care and participate in the 7-day/week service at Barnet Hospital.
Main duties of the job
* Manage a caseload and provide expert, autonomous nursing care for patients with life-limiting illnesses, supporting them and their families using advanced clinical judgment in palliative care.
* Lead and innovate nursing practice in palliative care at Barnet Hospital.
* Participate in a 7-day/week face-to-face clinical nurse specialist service for specialist palliative care.
* Contribute to the weekly specialist palliative care multidisciplinary team (MDT).
* Design and deliver specialist palliative care education, including end-of-life education.
* Support and mentor students within the team.
* Engage in regular audit and review of clinical practice within the palliative care team.
* Develop research skills and contribute to multidisciplinary research efforts in palliative care.

* Degree in Palliative Care, Oncology, Critical Care, Long-term Conditions, or relevant specialty
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) through a portfolio

* Master’s Degree in a relevant subject or willingness to study to this level

Salary: £53,751 to £60,651 per annum, inclusive of HCAS (pro-rata).
