The Sutton Hoo Ship's Company is looking for a part-time Education Coordinator.
This is a part-time role subject to a contract for services that will ideally fit with the role holder’s private portfolio of work in the educational sector. The role which reports to the Ship’s Company Project Manager is to plan, organise, resource and deliver engaging and informative educational experiences to a diverse range of young people both on-site and off-site. This will include, for example, primary school children and higher education students and youth organisations visiting the Saxon Ship. The role holder will be able to build strong relationships with other members of the Ship’s Company and be a flexible and committed member of the team. They will enjoy working with children, understand how to deliver information to young people of all ages, how to engage their interest and how to manage a group to ensure a safe and enriching learning experience for all participants. They need to have good organisational skills, be a careful record keeper and a strong communicator.
Key Responsibilities:
* On-site and off-site visits:
* Develop workshops and activities for young people of different ages, that support the school curriculum or other areas of learning by providing accurate and engaging information about the project.
* Lead on-site activities, workshops and learning experiences.
* Visit schools to deliver lessons and assembly style information.
* Adapt content and delivery style to suit the age, abilities and requirements of different groups.
* Maintain effective control and management of group behaviour, ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. Respond appropriately to challenging behaviour and implement strategies for positive group dynamics.
* Educational Planning & Organisation:
* Develop appropriate educational resources, such as worksheets, activity packs, displays and information sheets.
* Plan and organise educational visits including: contacting organisations scheduling visits, managing bookings, and coordinating with schools and group leaders.
* Seek feedback and use it to quality control the resources and activities provided.
* Liaise with schools and group leaders before and after visits to ensure a smooth and effective learning experience. Adapt workshops according to feedback.
* Ensure we are fully inclusive and adapt resources and visits for SEND visitors as appropriate in conjunction with the school or organisation.
* Create and follow risk assessments for all activities.
* Subject Knowledge & Development:
* Maintain a knowledge of the Saxon era, with a particular focus on Sutton Hoo and its historical significance.
* Develop a working knowledge of Anglo-Saxon ship building techniques.
* Stay up-to-date with current research and developments related to the Sutton Hoo ship reconstruction project.
* Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
* Administration & Communication:
* Maintain accurate records of contacts, bookings, attendance, and feedback.
* Communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, volunteers, and visitors.
* Contribute to the development and improvement of educational programs.
* Agree realistic charging rates for activities
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Experience working with children and young people in an educational or recreational setting.
* Full DBS clearance.
* Demonstrable ability to generate an income stream.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills.
* Excellent IT skills with a willingness to embrace new technology.
* Strong organisational and planning skills.
* Ability to manage group behaviour effectively.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
* An interest in history and archaeology.
* Knowledge of Anglo-Saxon life and Sutton Hoo
* Knowledge and understandingof History and DT curricula at KS2 and KS3.
* Experience developing and delivering educational resources.
* Teaching or Teaching Assistant Qualification.

£170 per day
