The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the planning, development, and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services to the Indigenous population of South East Queensland (SEQ).
The Institute was established in 2009 by the four Community Controlled Health Services in SEQ to provide for the needs of Australia’s second largest Indigenous population.
Psychologists are members of the Social Health team (comprising care coordinators, support workers, and counsellors) embedded within a Primary Health Care Clinic that offers a wide range of primary and specialist care services, including GP, Allied Health, Psychiatry, Family Wellbeing, NDIS services and assessments, Maternity, and Paediatric services. Psychologists collaborate actively with these disciplines to meet clients' needs holistically.
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate part-time or full-time Psychologist to join our Social Health team. The successful candidate will provide culturally appropriate clinical care and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, parents, and families. This role emphasizes culturally sensitive, family-centered assessment and therapeutic care, with flexible service delivery during COVID-19. Responsibilities include:
* Conducting comprehensive assessments of the social and mental health needs of clients to inform therapeutic support
* Providing informal and formal psychological assessments and liaising with a multidisciplinary paediatric health team
* Applying an ecological framework for assessment and therapy tailored to community needs
* Offering short- and long-term psychological interventions to children, parents, and families using attachment-based, trauma-informed, and developmentally appropriate approaches
* Delivering interventions under NDIS plans, including cognitive assessments
* Managing and prioritizing a caseload effectively
* Developing and maintaining detailed client files with documentation on assessment, treatment plans, and feedback
* Maximizing Medicare billings through efficient clinic and record-keeping processes
About You
* Current AHPRA registration with Psychology Board Australia (General registration)
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively, contributing to innovative service development
* Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across South East Queensland as needed
