Data Platform Engineer
We are seeking a Data Platform Engineer to join our Group Technology team in Milton Keynes. You will play a key role in delivering the Connells Group Data Platform, including design, capacity, management and configuration management responsibilities. As a Data Platform Engineer, you will be working in a team of technical specialists on a day-to-day basis, liaising with 3rd party providers developing your core skills and expertise whilst maturing the overall processes and procedures in relation to the service. The role also supports the business objectives and strategy through the delivery of secure, supportable and scalable cloud data platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Have expertise around the Data Platform capability
2. Maintain the Data Platform for all Connells users, managing critical downtime and risk of disruption.
3. To undertake root cause analysis and resolution of incidents.
4. To undertake applicable out-of-hours support as required for operational running.
Team Roles and Responsibilities
5. Use of Agile methodologies for platform development
6. Deliver Platform as Code
7. Work within the Cloud Platform design pattern to implement technical and financial observability
8. Undertake platform capacity management
9. Support projects where appropriate
10. Undertake proactive monitoring and react to escalations from other IT teams
11. Collaborating with other members of the team.
Experience and Skills Required:
Essential:
12. Demonstrable experience in similar relevant technical roles
13. Experience of incident resolution, requests, changes and problem-solving activities delivered to agreed SLAs
14. Experience of implementing Cloud Technologies
15. Experience of Microsoft Fabric
16. Experience of managing SQL Server
17. Good team communication, with experiences in sharing and presenting new ideas and approaches with the team
18. Willingness to learn, adopt and advance best-practices, procedures and qualitative standards
19. Can operate in a complex environment under pressure
20. Able to operate both with legacy and current technology
21. Analytically minded and a strong attention to detail
Desirable:
22. Experience of GitHub, Git Actions, Terraform, Platform as Code and Zero Trust architectures
23. Experience of advanced tools for operational monitoring
24. Ability to operate and influence at all levels within the organisation
25. Experience of tools for Alerting and Monitoring
26. Cloud Cost Monitoring and reporting
27. STEM degree/ postgraduate qualification
