We want you to join our team in our chemotherapy unit which is based at Kidderminster hospital. Millbrook Suite consists of an outpatient consulting suite together with a day care unit.
The 10‑chair day unit cares for patients with a range of cancers who are receiving systemic anti‑cancer therapies. We are looking for someone who wants to increase their Oncology/Haematology experience and wants to work within this rewarding environment. If you have phlebotomy skills it will be an advantage, but if not, then you should have enthusiasm and dexterity to develop these skills. The ability to communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team is essential. Previous HCA experience is essential. You will be supported in this post by Senior staff and the Unit Manager. As a part of the countywide service delivering anti‑cancer treatments you may be required to travel between sites on occasions.
Main duties of the job
* Welcoming patients onto the unit or clinic in a professional manner, acting as the patients advocate at all times to ensure privacy and dignity.
* Clarifying patients details on arrival.
* Ensuring the smooth flow of clinical and administrative work, whilst supporting Practitioners and colleagues.
* Accurately entering data into the patient management systems and updating information as required.
* Adhering to the requirements of the Data Protection Act, ensuring confidentiality of information regarding staff and patients is maintained at all times.
* Dealing with telephone and direct enquiries in a prompt and effective manner, ensuring the provision of information and prioritisation of queries as appropriate.
* Facilitating patient scheduling, optimal use of nursing capacity.
* Maintaining stock control and being responsible for ordering.
* Cleaning, monitoring and tidying equipment as directed and report any problems or malfunctions.
* Maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
* Remaining up to date with mandatory training and completing any additional courses required for this role.
* Understanding all responsibilities and adhering to all statutory requirements for Health and Safety, COSHH, PPE, fire safety, complaints and accident reporting.

Job responsibilities
The Health Care Support Worker is a member of the Millbrook Suite team who implements prescribed care and undertakes some higher‑level clinical activities as directed by a registered nurse. The main dimensions of the role are to:
* Support registered health care staff to deliver high quality, compassionate health care to patients in accordance with assessed needs and care plans.
* Support the clinical team with day‑to‑day supervision of junior staff and students.
* Use your own initiative, independently and as part of a team, in order to accommodate changing demands on the wider clinical team.
* Support the unit / department staff to provide a high‑quality service.
* Undertake a range of delegated clinical care duties, acting on own initiative where appropriate, supported by accessible supervision.
* Provide administration support for the clinical treatment and out‑patient areas.
Person Specification
Experience
* Previous experience as a healthcare assistant, working within a nursing team.
* Experience within oncology/haematology.
* Experience within the acute setting.
Qualifications
* Basic standard of education, including Maths and English.
* Care Certificate.
* Qualified to NVQ level 2 or higher in healthcare.
Knowledge & Skills
* Excellent verbal and non‑verbal communication skills.
* Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues across health and social care settings.
* Competent venepuncture.
* Able to perform ECG.
