There are two openings
Reporting to the Quality Manager the role is to support the effective and efficient day to day running of the Quality Department. Focused on food safety, quality engagement and performance improvement across the business, it is key that the Quality Department supports the evolving business needs and objectives while constantly striving to improve upon set targets and objectives.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. As the Assistant Quality Manager you will support the Quality Manager and be the principle Quality Lead on shift responsible for relevant food safety, legislative and regulatory standards and ensure our products, procedures and processes are fully compliant.
2. Taking a zero tolerance approach, work on initiatives with the Operational, Hygiene and Pest control teams in the systematic elimination of quality & food safety incidents that will mitigate related risk throughout the business.
3. Work closely with QA Assistants to ensure that they are working effectively and efficiently aligned to quality assigned tasks.
4. Ensure work on Quality awareness and Cultural excellence is fully embedded in the Quality team and cascaded throughout the site.
5. Support site HACCP and food defence team, agree in-house standards and define procedures in conjunction with key stakeholders (Production, Engineering, Supply Chain and Technical).
6. Working to the group internal audit matrix ensure all audits are undertaken by site trained internal auditors and any corrective or follow up actions are complete aligned to compliance expectations.
7. Work with Quality Manager to develop and manage required sampling matrix to ensure compliance and due diligence testing is completed on ingredients, packaging, finished product and equipment including any ad hoc customer validation requirements.
8. Work in conjunction with Supply Chain team to ensure incoming ingredients and packaging meet agreed specification and quality parameters aligned to TraceGains (including COC, COA and supplier acceptance matrix).
9. Working to agreed KPIs, track plant and quality performance and report back to management team and customers on any significant deviations.
10. Support Quality Manager during all Customer and Third Party audits (including AIB, BRC, SQMS, Religious & Regulatory) taking responsibility for collation and execution of corrective actions.
11. Working with Quality Systems manager support the review of quality procedures, identify any areas of improvement and work to support change.
12. Ensure the Specifications Technologist is provided with all the relevant product and raw material information in order for them to generate and upload customer specifications in a satisfactory and timely manner.
13. To ensure that a high level of communication is maintained at all times.
14. Support and Quality Manager to achieve department budget.
15. To understand fully and abide by all the Company procedures, in particular the Disciplinary and Grievance procedures.
16. To actively promote and protect the core values of the business and to encourage a culture of commitment and development.
Main Job Requirements:
Educational / Certification
1. Degree or Higher in Food Science related subject
Job Related Experience / Skills
1. Understanding of AIB, BRC, SQMS, Religious & Regulatory audits
2. Trained internal auditor
3. Ability to analyse, interpret and communicate complex data
4. Proficient in the use of PC, MS office and web based tools (TMS, SAP, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, QDA, Markem printers, Eyepro)
5. Thorough understanding of Quality & Food Safety Systems (including HACCP, TACCP and food defence.
6. Able to manage and motivate team to deliver against targets
7. Highly organised and able to prioritise and plan coherently
8. Able to travel as business requires

Working Conditions and Physical Effort
1. Work involves light exposure to bakery ingredients, noise & extreme temperatures
2. Work environment involves exposure to physical risks around mechanical hazards and the use of bakery equipment
3. Light physical effort is required such as standing, sitting, walking, reaching, climbing, kneeling and lifting as needed: utilising fine dexterity, the ability to see, hear and communicate with colleagues as well as others by utilising professional etiquette.
4. Personal protective equipment, as defined by Guenther Bakeries, will be provided.
