Job Title: Teaching Assistant – SEND School & College (Autism Specialist)
Location: St Helens
Start Date: Immediate Starts Available
Contract Type: Full-Time
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people with autism and complex needs?

Do you thrive in a supportive environment where no two days are the same?

We are currently recruiting for a specialist SEND school and college in the St Helens area, supporting students aged 4 to 19 with autism, communication difficulties, and additional learning needs. This setting offers a truly inclusive and enriching experience — both for students and staff.

Whether you're supporting younger pupils in their early learning journey or helping older students build independence and life skills, this is a role where you’ll see the impact of your work every day.

Why This Role Stands Out:

This school and college isn’t just about academics. It’s about helping students grow in confidence, independence, and self-esteem. Students take part in practical, hands-on activities, including running a college café and garden centre, giving them valuable real-world experiences alongside tailored learning.

As a Teaching Assistant, you'll be a vital part of a nurturing team that supports each student to reach their potential — whether that’s in the classroom, in the community, or preparing for adulthood.

Key Responsibilities:

Support students aged 4–19 in both academic learning and real-life skill development

Adapt resources and learning activities to meet individual needs and EHCP goals

Assist students with autism in building communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction skills

Get involved in hands-on learning, including vocational tasks like the café or garden centre

Work closely with teachers and therapists to monitor progress and contribute to student development

Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive environment for all learners

What We’re Looking For:

Experience working with children or young people with autism and/or complex needs (school, college, care or youth settings welcome)

A calm, patient and nurturing approach to behaviour and learning

Enthusiasm for supporting both early years and post-16 learners

A proactive attitude with the confidence to work 1:1 or in small groups

Strong teamwork and communication skills

A genuine passion for helping children and young people thrive

What You’ll Get in Return:

Immediate start available – get started right away

A full-time, permanent role with consistent hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday

Supportive leadership and a collaborative, values-driven team

Ongoing training and professional development opportunities

Hourly rates of pay starting from £13.50

A rewarding role where you’ll play a key part in shaping lives and futures

If you're looking for a fulfilling role in a school and college that puts relationships, wellbeing, and individual growth at the centre of everything — we want to hear from you.

Apply now to start your journey in a setting where you’ll truly make a difference.
