Metroline Manchester is a recently formed subsidiary of ComfortDelGro, in March 2024 we were awarded contracts to operate four franchises and join the Bee Network in Greater Manchester by Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA). Metroline was formed in 1989, fourth largest bus operator in London running about 17 percent of the city’s scheduled bus services and has been a part of the largest private land transport company Comfort Del Gro since 2000. Job Summary
To maintain vehicles to the standard required by Metroline, TfGM and DVSA to achieve maximum vehicle availability. Responsible for working in a safe manner as stated in current legislation and Metroline policies and procedures.
Main Responsibilities
* Responsible for routine inspection / maintenance of company vehicles in accordance with established company procedure and DVSA requirements.
* To diagnose faults by road testing vehicle and using laptop diagnostic software, pressure, and brake gauges, rolling roads, multimeters etc. Where necessary to refer to Engineering Manager/Assistant Engineering Manager for approval for repair.
* To undertake mechanical, electrical and body repair. To road test on completion of repair.
* To work in accordance with safe working practices as stated in Metroline Health and Safety policy and procedures.
* To train/mentor apprentices and new recruits.
* To keep abreast of environmental and technical developments.
* To ensure that the needs of the Operating Department are met and that enough vehicles are available to meet PVR.
* To ensure that all vehicles provided for operation comply with the standards set by the Company and DVSA.
* To supervise staff and contractors to ensure that vehicle presentation is maintained in accordance with cleaning specifications and that vehicles meet the standards required by Metroline and DVSA.
* To ensure that all engineering staff/contractors comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act, Metroline Health and Safety policy and other current legislation including COSHH and manual handling regulations. To bring to the attention of the Engineering Manager any relevant deficiencies that may arise.
* To ensure that all appropriate documentation and records are maintained accurately to satisfy the requirements of the Department of Transport Operators licence and Metroline policies and procedures.
* Responsible for accepting delivery of tyres, stores, lubricants, and fuels, as necessary. Also responsible for the security of the premises and stores.
Qualifications and Skills
* Knowledge and previous experience of vehicle bodywork repairs and maintenance procedures, ideally on HGV, PCV or Buses.
* Ability to read, understand, follow, and/or apply oral and written instructions such as complex technical instructions in maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams and schematics, and technical service publications.
* Awareness and understanding of risk assessment, Health and Safety practices and Department of Transport standards.
* An understanding of the standards required by VOSA and the Department of Transport.
* Knowledge of manual handling regulations.
* Computer literate with working knowledge of relevant packages.
* Experience in analysing and fault finding.
* Basic bus bodywork.
* The post holder should have the ability to gain a PCV licence.
Hours of Work
Permanent Contract – basic 38 hours per week. Flexibility required for hours/days worked (including weekends) in line with operational requirements.
