Job overview
The post will be a part of the Acute Medical team at Dorset County Hospital, taking a share of the on call duties and gaining exposure to a wide range of medical conditions while being fully supported by a full junior and senior team. This will include full and equal access to educational & clinical supervision as well as internal educational and training opportunities and funded study leave. Access to an ePortfolio will be offered. The successful applicant will be offered the opportunity to gain experience in the specialty of their choice, on an inpatient, outpatient or procedure basis (subject to capacity in a few specialties). Where possible this will be aligned with the clinical service placement, although it should be emphasised that the elective sessions are not restricted to the area of medicine in which the ST3 is located.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work alongside a team of acute medical consultants providing support with daytime admissions, with more specialist teams such as cardiology and renal medicine providing focused support. Overnight support from the on-call consultant is easily accessible and weekends are covered by 2 of the medical consultants, both of whom cover the post take ward round each day.
Weekday referrals to acute medicine are also routed to the ambulatory care unit and treatment options after assessment include the Acute Hospital at Home (AHaH) Virtual Ward service and the medical day unit was well as a busy and well-staffed admissions ward which has access to a high level of discharge team support.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provide core services to support the safe delivery of care to the wards and acute medical on-call rota. The candidate will be required to take part in the consultant led ward rounds, as well as, other daily ward duties specific to the ward area.
On-call duties will include liaising with GP colleagues with regards to unselected medical intake patients and those that are generated by the Emergency Department to ensure the appropriate, high quality delivery of care.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
* Medical Degree (MBBS, MChB or equivalent)
* Full GMC registration and a license to practice is required
* Postgraduate training in medicine
* Full MRCP or equivalent
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
* At least 3 years clinical experience in general medicine
* Evidence of good oral and written communication skills
* 1 year clinical experience in UK
Desirable criteria
* Ideally some experience in an area being recruited to
* Experience of multidisciplinary working.
* Evidence of working independently.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
