A vibrant and creative secondary school in Colchester is seeking a passionate and highly organised Art Technician to join its thriving Art & Design department immediately. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys working in artistic environments, is enthusiastic about supporting the visual arts, and possesses the organisational flair to help keep a busy department running smoothly. You will support the teaching staff in preparing materials for lessons, maintaining studio spaces, and helping students during practical activities. This includes preparing paints, inks, clay, papers, digital equipment, textiles materials, and specialist supplies for a variety of Art and Design projects across KS3 and KS4. You will also assist with mounting work, organising displays, managing stock, and ensuring that the studios remain tidy, safe, and visually inspiring environments for young artists to learn and experiment in. The school places strong value on creativity and believes that Art plays an essential role in helping students develop confidence, expression and problem-solving skills. As a result, the Art department is well-resourced, with spacious studios, kiln access, quality materials, and large exhibition display areas that regularly showcase student achievements. The Art Technician will play a key part in maintaining these spaces and ensuring that students can fully engage in their creative process. The ideal candidate will have some background or interest in the arts — whether through personal practice, education, or previous technician experience. You should be practical, organised, and comfortable working with a wide range of materials and equipment. A supportive, patient approach is important, as you will occasionally work alongside students, helping them understand processes, prepare materials or refine presentation of their work. This is a term-time only, full-time role offering a competitive salary and the chance to work within a friendly, collaborative department that takes great pride in celebrating student creativity and success.
