About The Role
This role puts you at the heart of McCain’s agricultural operation. You will work closely with growers across the region to help them meet contractual commitments and ensure the right quality potatoes are delivered on time. A key part of the role is communicating clear crop intelligence so deliveries run smoothly and quality is maintained. You will also support the Regional Agriculture Manager in strengthening McCain’s grower relationships and contributing to the strategic picture.
Accountabilities
* Collaborate with the Regional Agriculture Manager to bring strategic objectives to life, actively making things happen on the ground.
* Partner with the Crop Management Technician to deliver accurate, timely crop intelligence, keeping everyone informed throughout the growing and storage cycle.
* Ensure growers deliver the right quality potatoes on time, meeting contractual commitments throughout the season.
* Build trusted relationships with growers and grower groups through regular contact, honest conversations, and solid technical and commercial support.
* Champion and support quality improvement initiatives, encouraging growers to consistently raise potato production standards.
* Manage potato seed ordering, ensuring correct quantities and timing, and perform seed quality inspections as needed while handling complaints professionally and promptly.
* Provide agronomic support to growers, developing crop production plans and monitoring progress through the growing season and into storage.
Experience
* Background working with growers in a quality or agronomic capacity, with hands‑on crop performance expertise.
* Direct experience with a processing potato crop, understanding key quality benchmarks from field to factory.
* Experience managing customer or grower relationships, building rapport and communicating at all levels.
* Comfortable using bespoke agricultural computer systems, or the willingness and ability to learn them quickly.
Knowledge
* Strong working knowledge of agriculture and potato crop production, with practical understanding to support growers at all season stages.
* Tertiary qualification in agriculture or a related discipline, or equivalent experience gained on the ground.
* BASIS and FACTS qualifications already in place, or a commitment to achieving them within 12 months of starting the role.
Location
We champion hybrid working. Full‑time, office‑based staff are encouraged to connect in person for around half of their working time while working from home otherwise. The head office (Customer Experience Centre) is located on the outskirts of Scarborough, approximately 1.5 hours from Leeds City Centre and about an hour from York. Hybrid working allows staff to balance professional and personal commitments while collaborating with colleagues.
