General Operations Manager Strategic Innovations is recruiting for an experienced General Operations Manager to oversee our CNC precision machining and subcontract engineering across the UK and beyond. We specialise in delivering high-accuracy components for demanding industries, including aerospace, automotive, energy, medical, and defence. This role is Full-time, working 5 over 7, 9am to 5pm. Job Summary Our General Operations Manager will be responsible for leading the daily operations of the CNC machining team which requires a strong engineering background and hands-on knowledge of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines to optimize production, manage resources, and ensure all products meet high-quality standards and are delivered on time. Technical Oversight : Utilise an in-depth understanding of CNC programming (G-code, CAM software), setup, and multi-axis machining to troubleshoot issues and improve manufacturing methods. Quality Assurance : Implement and enforce quality control standards, perform root cause analysis (RCA) for defects, and ensure compliance with industry standards Team Management and Development : Lead, mentor, and train a team of CNC operators, machinists, and engineers to ensure a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Process Improvement : Drive Lean manufacturing initiatives (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, SMED) to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall equipment effectiveness. Maintenance and Safety : Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules for all CNC machinery and ensure strict adherence to all health and safety regulations. Resource and Financial Management : Manage departmental budgets, monitor expenses, procure materials and tools, and analyse production data to optimize profitability. Collaboration : Liaise with other departments, such as Design Engineering, Sales, and Supply Chain, to ensure seamless New Product Introduction and overall business alignment Qualifications and Skills Education : A bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related field) is typically required; relevant work experience may be considered. Experience : Proven experience in a manufacturing environment, with significant experience in a management role overseeing CNC operations. Technical Skills : Strong knowledge of manufacturing production and processes. Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and machine maintenance/troubleshooting. Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments.
