The role is based in our Comber office and reports directly to the formulation science manager, Principally responsible for conducting and documenting tests on new products using established test protocols. This is an essential aspect of our product development process verifying that products meet specification prior to placing them on the market. KEY ACTIVITIES Contribute to the development of new devices, from early-stage product concepts to ready for clinical trial product, in line with Eakin’s development strategy, quality system and development processes. Contribute as a team member to allocated work-streams within development projects, to meet project targets and ensure products meet with customer expectations and operational needs. Utilise formulation, project and engineering knowledge to draft extracts of reports for review. Carry out testing of incoming materials and competitor products as required. Providing appropriate reports. Contribute to all stages of testing activities for development projects, such as the creation of test protocols, analysis of results and report writing. Document results of the tests carried out in a clear and professional manner. Liaise with internal colleagues to ensure that testing requirements are understood. Define experimental method(s) and apparatus, including creation of test protocols, to ensure tests are carried out according to requirements. Ensure lab test apparatus is calibrated and maintained in operational condition. Carry out diligent experimental testing to a high standard, in accordance to test protocol. Ensuring that lab safety protocols are always adhered to. Ensuring that good laboratory practices (GLP) are always adhered to. Ensuring that that the lab is clean, tidy and organised. Adopt a continuous improvement approach by proactively seeking out development opportunities by learning and attending training courses to ensure that department has right skills to deliver business needs. KEY SKILLS Essential Holds a HNC or HND in a technical subject Proven experience in a similar role. Strong science (preferred) or engineering background evidenced by educational subject choices. Evidence of strong report writing abilities – test report authoring will be a large part of the job. Computer literate, competent and confident in the use of data manipulation packages such as MS Excel. Desirable Educated to degree level in a technical subject. Relevant industry experience. Experience of experimental diligence and data collection, analysis and interpretation of data. Experience in use of statistical packages e.g. MiniTab. Experience of good laboratory practice (GLP). Working knowledge of adhesives, in particular medical adhesives. KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Internal Working on projects as directed by the formulation science manager. Testing parts and products for the development team as part of our ongoing efforts to launch new medical devices. Liaising with the engineering and quality teams to get test reports approved and reviewed. Conducting product and material tests for production, quality or other required department as part of ongoing monitoring and improvement within the company.
