As a Trainee Single Discipline Advocate (IMHA), you’ll be at the heart of that mission. This is a field-based role covering Wandsworth and Richmond — you’ll plan your own schedule, travel between appointments, and work closely with your local advocacy team. What this role is all about As a Trainee Advocate, you’ll learn to provide Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) to people in hospital, secure settings, care environments, or in the community. You’ll: Work one-to-one with the people we support, helping them understand their rights, express their wishes, and take an active role in decisions about their care. Receive full training and enrol on the Level 4 Independent Advocacy Practice qualification — with protected study time and dedicated supervision. Shadow experienced advocates, gradually taking on your own caseload as your confidence grows. Learn to deliver both instructed and non-instructed advocacy, including working with people with complex communication needs. Keep high‑quality records and play a key role in safeguarding and upholding people’s rights. Represent Rethink Mental Illness through awareness sessions, promotional work and partnership meetings.
