Role Overview
This role supports a long-term, multi-year engineering programme focused on delivering high‑integrity electronic and electromechanical systems. You will play a key part in ensuring products are designed with scalable, supportable and cost‑effective manufacturing in mind, from initial concept through to decades of in‑service support.
Key Responsibilities
Design for Manufacture (DfM)
Develop and implement innovative DfM processes to support scalable, efficient, and cost‑effective production systems.
Work closely with design, systems, and manufacturing teams to embed DfM principles early in the product lifecycle.
Optimise manufacturing processes for high‑complexity, medium‑volume products.
Manufacturing Process Development
Support the creation of business and engineering processes that enable scalable, repeatable manufacturing.
Identify and drive automation and digital manufacturing opportunities to enhance quality, consistency, cost efficiency, and throughput.
Lead design reviews, DFMEAs, PFMEAs, and validation activities.
Provide technical input for make/buy decisions and cost modelling.
Supplier & Lifecycle Considerations
Support supplier and manufacturing partner selection and qualification.
Ensure long-term maintainability, obsolescence planning, and lifecycle supportability are factored into design decisions.
What You Bring...
Essential Requirements
Proven experience in Design for Manufacture within a regulated or high‑integrity engineering environment.
Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality standards.
Solid understanding of automated manufacturing techniques and their application to complex assemblies.
Experience working in cross‑functional engineering teams.
Familiarity with lifecycle management and configuration control.
Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Desired Skills
Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Systems Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g., IEC, AS, NQA standards).
Experience with digital manufacturing tools, PLM systems, and process‑automation technologies.
Experience introducing robotics or collaborative robotics (cobotics) into manufacturing workflows.
Why This Role Matters!
This position offers the opportunity to shape product manufacturability from the ground up, influence engineering and production strategy, and contribute to the long-term reliability and success of complex technical systems.
