About RentProfile & Role Overview


RentProfile is a leading UK-based proptech company transforming how landlords, letting agents, and tenants set up and manage tenancies. We streamline tenant onboarding, referencing, and compliance checks using technology and automation. As we scale, we are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Compliance Manager to oversee all aspects of our legal and regulatory compliance framework.


Location: UK Remote


Responsibilities


As Compliance Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring RentProfile meets its obligations under UK law and industry regulations, with a focus on data protection (GDPR), property compliance, and corporate governance. You will help us maintain our high standards of trust and transparency while managing regulatory risk across the business.


This is a hands-on role requiring strong knowledge of UK property law, data protection regulations, and a strategic mindset for building scalable compliance processes in a tech-enabled environment.


Operational Compliance


* Embed compliance into product development and customer operations through collaboration with technology, sales, operations and product teams.
* Lead incident response planning for regulatory issues or breaches.
* Perform periodic reviews of compliance practices and report findings with actionable recommendations.


Data Protection & GDPR


* Act as the company’s Data Protection Officer (DPO), or oversee DPO functions if outsourced.
* Ensure ongoing GDPR compliance, including data mapping, consent management, and record-keeping.
* Lead data privacy impact assessments (DPIAs) for new products or processing activities.
* Respond to data subject access requests (DSARs) and regulator queries (ICO).
* Provide training and guidance on data privacy to staff across departments.
* Lead company efforts in completion of ISO27001 and other relevant certifications


Property Compliance & Regulation


* Monitor and interpret changes in UK property legislation relevant to tenancy management, right to rent checks, AML (anti-money laundering), and licensing.
* Ensure RentProfile’s technology, artefacts and processes align with:
* The Renters (Reform) Bill (as updated)
* The Tenant Fees Act 2019
* The Housing Act 2004
* The Right to Rent scheme
* AML regulations
* Maintain relationships with relevant legal bodies (including external legal council), regulators, national and local government.


Corporate Governance


* Develop and oversee internal compliance policies, controls, and training programs.
* Support risk management activities, internal audits, and compliance reporting to leadership.
* Maintain and update the company’s risk register.
* Collaborate with legal advisors to manage contracts, T&Cs, and company policies.
* Support the company’s adherence to KYC/AML obligations in partnership onboarding.


Skills & Experience / Personal attributes


Essential Skills & Experience


* Proven experience (1+ years) in a compliance, legal, or regulatory role, preferably within proptech, fintech, or real estate services.
* Strong knowledge of GDPR and UK data protection law.
* Familiarity with UK property compliance, tenant/landlord legislation, and rental sector regulation.
* Experience creating and implementing policies, audits, and training programs.
* Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.


Desirable Skills & Experience


* Experience in a startup or scale-up environment.
* Knowledge of AML/KYC procedures, Right to Rent and AML processes.
* Legal qualification (LLB, CIPP/E, or equivalent) or relevant compliance certifications.

* Excellent communication skills. Able to simplify the complex.
* Calm under pressure. Experience dealing with external executives.
* Leadership skills: leading by example, taking initiative, highly organised, ability to hire others, reliable, grounded decision making.
* An agile and fast learner.
* Pragmatism in managing backlogs and prioritisation. Experience and know how in tracking performance, identify risk/issues or opportunities.
* Methodical approach considering big picture and small details.
