Job Description
Data Protection Solicitor
Legal Services Arm of a FTSE-250 Business | Hybrid | Manchester-led
This is a rare chance to step into a genuinely grown-up in-house style role, without the usual in-house ceiling.
The legal arm of a FTSE-250 business is building out its data protection capability and is looking for a lawyer who is comfortable with contentious work with a desire to be involved in preventative, advisory work.
You’ll be close to the commercial reality of the business, trusted by stakeholders, and given real autonomy.
The work is broad and interesting. On the contentious side, you’ll handle data incidents, regulatory engagement, DSAR strategy and disputes, often at pace and with visibility at senior level. On the non-contentious side, you’ll advise on GDPR compliance, complex data processing arrangements, international transfers, DPIAs, data-driven products and technology projects.
What tends to attract people to this role is the balance. The hours are sensible. You still get exposure to complex, high-value issues, but with the ability to think and operate commercially. It suits someone who enjoys problem-solving, stakeholder management and being treated like an adult.
They are open on background. You might be coming from private practice, an in-house role, or a hybrid environment. What matters is strong data protection experience, confidence handling both contentious issues, and the ability to communicate clearly with non-lawyers.
Hybrid working is genuinely supported, with flexibility around where and how you work. The package is competitive and designed to reward impact rather than presenteeism.
If this sounds like the kind of role you’d like to explore, happy to talk it through and give you a proper sense of the business, the team and how this role will evolve.
