Overview
Job Title: Special Needs Teacher (SEND) | Location: Various locations across the UK | Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm with PPA time 8:30 am to 4:00 pm | Salary: £160 - £230 per day (PAYE)
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Needs Teacher with a passion for supporting students with high-level needs. You will teach and support students primarily diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), with most students working at a low level adapted for KS3 or KS4 curriculum.
Responsibilities
* Plan, deliver, and assess individualized and engaging lesson plans that meet the needs of all learners, considering academic and sensory needs.
* Apply effective teaching strategies tailored for students with ASC and adapt as necessary to engage learning and social development.
* Create a safe, supportive, and inspiring classroom environment that promotes belonging and enables students to reach their potential.
* Manage a class of 8 students, providing individualized attention and instruction to each student.
* Collaborate with a team of 3 teaching assistants to ensure effective classroom management and a unified approach to teaching and behavior management.
* Communicate regularly with parents, carers, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to education and well-being.
* Keep accurate records of students’ progress, achievements, and issues that arise.
* Participate in ongoing professional development to improve teaching practice and stay up-to-date with SEN strategies and frameworks.
* Uphold the school’s policies and procedures, including safeguarding and child protection guidelines.
Essential Criteria
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.
* DBS checked on the Update Service or able to obtain clearance, demonstrating suitability to work with children and vulnerable groups.
* Proven experience teaching students with complex needs, specifically those with ASC.
* Strong understanding of the KS3 or adapted KS4 curriculum and ability to differentiate effectively for students with ASC.
* Ability to build rapport and effectively manage a classroom of students with diverse needs.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development to continually enhance teaching practice.
Desirable
* A qualification in Special Educational Needs or a related field.
* Experience or training in PECs, Makaton, TEACCH, sensory integration, or other relevant communication and intervention strategies.
