Job Summary
A dedicated Trainee Mammographer will join our Breast Unit at Barnsley Hospital to support NHS Breast Screening Programme and symptomatic breast service. The role is a 12‑month training posting (Annex 21, 75 % of band) with progression to full band 6 after successful completion.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform the full range of mammographic procedures independently and provide clinical guidance to colleagues.
* Maintain high standards of diagnostic imaging, produce accurate reports, and ensure patient dignity and care.
* Engage in audit, training and multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to service development.
* Supervise and support radiographers, students and assistants, including providing training and mentorship.
* Assist the Superintendent Radiographer with operational efficiency, clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives.
* Adhere to clinical governance, safety standards and radiation protection legislation.
Qualifications & Experience
* Current UK professional registration (state registration).
* Certificate of competence in Mammography (DCR(R) or BSc Radiography).
* Significant clinical experience in breast imaging and participation in CPD.
* Experience of NHS breast screening programme and clinical audit preferred.
* Knowledge of radiation protection legislation and Health & Safety requirements.

Remuneration and Conditions
Band: 6
Salary: £38,682 – £46,580 per year (Annex 21, 75 % of band for trainees)
Contract: Permanent, full‑time (flexible working) – based at Pogmoor Road, Barnsley, South Yorkshire (S75 2EP)
