Long Term Futures are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Northfield (B31) who are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with ASD, language delays and communication needs. The child uses Makaton and PECS as well as benefiting from calm, consistent adult support throughout the school day.
This is a long-term role with the potential to become permanent, ideal for a TA who is passionate about SEN and early intervention.
The Role
Provide consistent 1:1 support to help the pupil access the Year 2 curriculum
Use Makaton, PECS and visual supports to aid communication and understanding
Support speech, language and social development through structured and play-based learning
Implement strategies outlined in the child's EHCP in collaboration with the SENCO
Encourage emotional regulation, independence and positive classroom behaviours
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals
Track progress and celebrate small but meaningful achievements
What We're Looking For
Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification (or equivalent experience)
Proven experience supporting children with ASD and communication needs
Confident using Makaton, PECS and visual timetables (essential)
Understanding of speech and language delays and inclusive KS1 practice
Calm, patient and nurturing approach
