Specialist Children's Occupational Therapist

We are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our friendly and dedicated paediatric team at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Teaching NHS Trust. Through service redesign and development, we have an exciting opportunity to recruit into a brand‑new permanent Band 6 position.

Our ideal candidate is highly motivated and enthusiastic about Children's Occupational Therapy with an interest in sensory processing difficulties and working with neurodiverse populations. Main duties of the job

The role of Specialist Childrens Occupational Therapist involves working autonomously to manage a caseload of community patients aged 0 to 19 years presenting with a wide range of developmental, neurological and physical needs.

The post holder will be responsible for assessment and sound clinical reasoning, goal setting, intervention/ treatment planning and delivery, and discharge to support flow through the service.

The position also includes job‑planned time working within the Specialist Sensory Processing service, delivering specialist sensory assessments and supporting evidence‑based treatment, working toward meaningful patient outcomes. The post will play a vital role in enabling children to achieve their potential and participate fully in childhood occupations.

This position will enhance both Occupational Therapy core and specialist skills within the field of paediatrics at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Teaching NHS Trust. The post holder will be responsible for defined service development projects supporting the work of lead clinicians and will demonstrate a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.

The post holder will work efficiently and effectively across a range of health, community and educational settings, under the supervision of an experienced therapist. Job responsibilities

* Occupational Therapy Degree BSc/MSc or relevant Dip COT
* Registration with HCPC
* Experience of working as a Children's Occupational Therapist with a range of ages, who present with physical and/or sensory processing difficulties which impact on daily occupational performance skills
* Substantial experience of autonomous and MDT working within a range of clinical and professional settings including the NHS
* Knowledge of statutory processes in relation to SEND
* Experience managing child safeguarding cases
* Knowledge of clinical governance and promoting excellence within Children's Therapy
* Evidence of managing change effectively and working flexibly to service demands
* Ability to establish good working relationships
* Knowledge and experience of paediatric Occupational Therapy reasoning and recognised theories of practice to plan, execute and evaluate OT treatment and intervention
* Ability to demonstrate/discuss the Occupational Therapy process in relation to Children's Therapy
* Working knowledge of normal child development
* Demonstrates knowledge and application of evidence‑based practice relevant to field of practice
* Awareness of factors that can influence team working
* Understand the need to establish and maintain a safe practice environment
* Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to job role
* Able to impart skills and knowledge to others both formally and informally
