Language Assistant – Spanish & French – Chatham

Location: Chatham

Full-Time or Part-Time | Long-Term (Rest of Academic Year)

Are you a confident Spanish and French speaker with a passion for education?
A thriving secondary school in Chatham are seeking a dedicated Language Assistant / Teaching Assistant to join their Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with pupils in KS3 and KS4, supporting their learning in Spanish and French.

Whether you're looking for full-time or part-time work, this role offers flexibility and the chance to make a real impact in students’ language development.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a bilingual (Spanish and French) Teaching Assistant to support students in Years 7–11. You’ll work alongside MFL teachers, providing in-class support, small group intervention, and 1:1 assistance for pupils needing additional help in their language studies.

Key Responsibilities:

* Support pupils in Spanish and French lessons, helping them access the curriculum and build confidence in speaking, reading, and writing.
* Assist the class teacher with lesson delivery, preparation of materials, and classroom activities.
* Provide targeted support to students who are struggling or require extra challenge.
* Lead or support small language groups or conversation practice sessions.
* Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where pupils feel motivated to learn languages.
* Help with classroom management and ensure students remain engaged.
* Contribute to the assessment and tracking of pupil progress under teacher guidance.

Requirements:

* Fluency or high proficiency in both Spanish and French (spoken and written).
* Previous experience working with secondary-aged pupils, ideally in a school or tutoring setting.
* A genuine interest in supporting young people and promoting language learning.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
* A relevant qualification or degree in languages or education is desirable but not essential.
* Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
