We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP High Down, working as a Functional Skills English and Maths Teacher. This position is offered on a part-time, fixed-term basis, working 32 hrs per week. This will be for on an initial period of 6-months, with potential to extend.

Site Information

HMP High Down is located in Sutton in Surrey. It is a Category B male prison known for its extensive history and modern facilities. It offers a range of facilities aimed at rehabilitation and education. The prison's mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
Have the passion and ability to motivate and enthuse learners
Utilise organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines and targets
Be committed to positive team working
Have experience of creating stimulating and vibrant environments conducive to learning
Have a track record of achieving quality targets and producing accurate and timely reports
Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, a relevant subject specialist qualification (in Maths or English) - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS), or commit to work towards within a specified timeframe (Applies to Teachers in YOI only)

However, if you are missing one or more qualifications, there may be additional options available for applicants with a suitable skillset, attitude and/or level of experience to complete qualifications while in-post. Please be advised that eligibility and funding for qualifications is assessed on a case-by-case basis and subject to conditions. Salary point offered will be determined based on level of qualification and experience.
