Job Details
This is an exciting opportunity to work intensively with young people between the ages of 16 - 18. These young people will be/have been care experienced and have come into conflict with the law. The young people will have current Justice Social Work involvement and will have been identified as requiring additional intensive support. This initiative is voluntary and requires the consent and engagement of the young person.
This role will involve:
Adopting a ‘young person first’ approach by treating each young person in line with their age and stage development.
Individualised, rights based and person-centred approach to help prevent young people from getting into further conflict with the law.
Frequent face-to-face contact with young people focusing primarily on welfare issues.
Working alongside the young person to provide intensive support, which will involve supporting young people in all aspects of their life and advocating on their behalf to achieve positive outcomes.
Liaising closely with other professionals.
Undertaking assessments and identifying areas of need for intervention.
The requirement to work on a 1:1 basis with young people.
Willingness to co-facilitating groupwork and work with others to deliver structured activities.
Confidence around responding in a timely manner to crisis and reacting to the needs of the young person.
Due to the nature of the work, the role will require some evening and weekend working.
The posts are temporary until 31 March 2026. The positions will be based across Fife and there will be a requirement to travel as and when required. The posts will be based within the existing Early Intervention Service and will involve liaising closely with the allocated workers for the young people involved in the programme.
Due to the nature of the work, there will be a requirement to work flexibly, at times in the evening and weekends. Enhancements are payable for unsocial hours as required. The work patterns may be reviewed in line with the needs of the Service.
The positions will be based across Fife, with each worker covering a geographical area, however may be required to work out with the area depending on the needs of the young people.
The Person
The Person Must have experience of working within a social work setting. Experience of working with young people in conflict with the law is desirable but not essential. There is a requirement to work flexibly and creatively to support hard to reach young people who are involved in varying levels of offending behaviour. Understanding of barriers experienced by this service user group and how to work with them alongside partner agencies to improve their outcomes is essential. Ability to communicate and advocate on behalf of young people is required and also the ability to work alongside supervising officers and other professionals providing support is essential.
Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
