About this Role
The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) will be responsible to the Principal for ensuring exemplary safeguarding provision, including:
* Following up safeguarding concerns appropriately, referring cases of suspected abuse, neglect, radicalisation, or criminal activity to relevant authorities, and working with the Principal on disclosures to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
* Collaborating with the senior management team to share information that promotes children's educational outcomes and wellbeing.
* Engaging with parents and carers to support safeguarding and welfare, especially in challenging circumstances.
Maintaining safeguarding records in line with statutory guidance:
* Keeping child protection files up to date, confidential, and securely stored.
* Sharing information in accordance with 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' (KCSIE) guidelines.
* Securely transferring child protection files when a child transfers to another school, with confirmation receipt, and sharing relevant information proactively.
Ensuring staff awareness, training, and support:
* Providing access to and understanding of the safeguarding policies and procedures for all staff and governors, with annual reviews.
* Sharing information about safeguarding issues affecting children with social workers and staff.
* Supporting staff with safeguarding training, including online safety and responsibilities related to filtering and monitoring systems.
Filtering and monitoring systems:
* Understanding and managing the school's filtering and monitoring systems effectively.
* Ensuring systems block harmful content without hindering teaching and learning.
* Reviewing these systems annually.
* Reporting safeguarding issues to the Principal, especially ongoing investigations.
Training requirements:
* The DSL must undergo training at least every two years, including prevent awareness training, and refresh knowledge annually.
