About the Role
A well-established main contractor specialising in high-end private residential projects across Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire is looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their growing team. Projects include luxury new builds, full refurbishments, extensions, and bespoke leisure complexes for discerning private clients.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, proactive Assistant Quantity Surveyor who is keen to develop within a supportive, high-performing environment. You will gain exposure to both pre-construction and live project delivery, working closely with senior commercial and project teams.
Role Overview
As Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial and financial management of multiple high-end residential projects. The role offers involvement across tendering, procurement, valuations, variations, and cost reporting, providing strong career development within a growing business.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Construction & Tendering
* Support preparation and analysis of Bills of Quantities and schedules of works
* Assist with tendering activities including measurement, rates, enquiries, and cost planning
* Help prepare competitive and negotiated tenders with accurate financial input
* Research and apply current market rates to ensure competitive pricing
* Assist with value engineering exercises
Project Delivery
* Support the Senior QS with commercial management of live projects
* Assist with monthly valuations, interim applications, and final accounts
* Manage and process variations and change orders
* Assist with subcontractor account management
* Monitor project costs, budgets, and cash flow
* Undertake site visits to assess progress and measure completed works
Procurement & Commercial Support
* Assist with procurement of subcontractors and materials
* Support project managers with cost advice and reporting
* Contribute to cost optimisation across materials and construction methods
* Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
About You
* Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or similar construction/commercial discipline
* Ideally 2–4 years’ experience in a similar role
* Experience or exposure to high-end residential projects preferred
* Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
* Confident communicator able to work with clients, consultants, and subcontractors
* Proactive, driven, and eager to learn and develop
* Organised and capable of managing multiple tasks
