Construction Labourer Dumfries | £24,855.78 pro rata | 17.5 hours per week | Fixed Term 3 months Dumfries and Galloway College is seeking a hardworking and reliable Labourer to support the Brickwork and Plastering departments at our Dumfries Campus. Hours 08:45-16:30 - standard working hours, working pattern will be: Wednesday – 3.5 hours Thursday – 7 hours Friday – 7 hours Other Benefits · Access to an excellent pension scheme - LGPS · Opportunities for career progression and personal development This is a hands-on role where you will play an important part in keeping workshops safe, clean, and well-prepared for student learning. Working closely with lecturers, students, and Construction Technicians, you will ensure that materials are ready and that practical areas are maintained to a high standard. Key Responsibilities · Mixing mortar and plaster to support student activities. · Preparing and making materials available for classes. · Cleaning and maintaining machinery, tools, and workshop areas. · Assisting with the demolition and removal of brickwork models. · Removing plaster from walls and preparing surfaces for re-use. · Ensuring safe storage of materials and maintaining a tidy workspace. · Following college health and safety procedures at all times. · Operating a counterbalance forklift to move and manage materials safely (training provided if not already held). Essential Knowledge and Experience · Practical experience in construction, ideally brickwork or plastering. · Ability to carry out manual handling, lifting, and physical work. · Awareness of safe working practices within a workshop environment. · Strong teamwork and communication skills. · A proactive and safety-conscious attitude. Qualifications · SCQF Level 4 or 5 (or equivalent) in a construction-related subject is desirable but not essential. · Willingness to undertake training in Health and Safety, Manual Handling, First Aid, or forklift operation as required.
