EMEA Financial Institutions Credit Risk Management - FIG Credit Risk is a 2nd Line of Defence (“2LoD”) integrated International Credit Risk Division specialised in activity with Financial Institutions and complex transactions. The members of the Division have dual hatted credit risk management responsibilities for EMEA operations of MUFG Securities (EMEA) and MUFG Bank EMEA

Its major functions are outlined as follows:

o Assessment and management (including credit approval) of credit risks and related risks from activity with FIs / Sovereigns / NBFI’s and trading complex transactions
o Assessment and management of country risks
o Management of problematic assets
o Monitoring, reporting and early action
o Portfolio analysis and management

Main Purpose of the Role

o To support the Head and deputy Head of Credit Risk Management and FIG Credit Risk, EMEA to direct the continuous development of EMEA’s credit risk framework, risk appetite portfolio monitoring and early warning frameworks in line with shareholders, client and regulatory expectations.
o To develop, lead, manage, and guide a group of credit professionals responsible for non-bank FI credit, Fund Financing and structured finance credit.
o To exercise delegated credit approval authority and/or make recommendations to senior management on transaction specific files as well as continuously and actively monitoring the portfolio in line with internal policies and applicable regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

o Exercise Delegated Credit Approval authority and/or make recommendations to senior management on transaction specific files/transaction level internal ratings as well as continuously and actively monitoring the portfolio in line with internal policies and applicable regulatory guidelines.
o Represent Credit Risk Management/Financial Institutions Group (‘FIG’) Credit Team at appropriate Regional and Global forums across MUFG entities to share opinions and influence decisions that impact their areas of specialism.
o Analysing counterparty risk deriving from plain vanilla, subscription finance, Heding FX structures, and complex/structured bilateral or portfolio transactions to ensure a balanced risk/return approach and appropriate use of capital. This could include an in-depth analysis of individual transactions, challenging cash flow and scenario assumption-based modelling to ensure both repayment capacity and to determine potential loss scenarios.
o Reviewing transaction material and front office analysis and participating in transactional due diligence, client legal and other relevant meetings, challenging assumptions and conclusions as necessary.
o Providing creative solutions: Influencing transaction structures and credit risk related terms/conditions when required.
o Collaborating with appropriate department(s) to ensure credit risk can be modelled and measured correctly.
o Contribute to the development and implementation of regional/global credit strategy for the FIG sector and strategic business initiatives and sectors within the overall Medium-Term Business Plan including assessing and setting risk appetite, underwriting criteria and limits.
o Support the continuous development of regional/global credit risk frameworks, risk appetite, portfolio monitoring and early warning frameworks relevant to the integrated Credit Risk Management/FIG Credit team.
o Represent Credit Risk Management and FIG Credit Risk in MUFG Committees and Fora.
o Presenting large transactions to senior management in the securities house and the bank for discussion and approval.
o Transactional and other trading documentation: Set credit risk related terms in trading documentation to mitigate credit risk and ensure transactions perform as expected. This could include close liaison with the Legal department, external counsel, the client, etc. as appropriate to the underlying transaction.
o Monitoring: Ensure existing transactions are performing as expected through analysis and management information.
o Where appropriate, ensure that the necessary guidelines, procedures, and approvals are in place for new products (via the New Business Committee and New Product Approval processes), through proactive liaison with the business units and other relevant areas.
o Assume and Perform Managerial responsibilities within the Credit Risk Management/FIG Credit Team and supervise designated direct reports.
o Support initiatives to develop joint governance and seek to align methodologies and policies as relevant between the securities house and the bank.
o Support Chief Credit Risk Officer and Head of CRM in implementing the new integrated structure for the Bank and Securities Business.
o The role is dual hatted and spans both MUS (EMEA) and MUFG BK EMEA.

Work Experience

Essential:

o Extensive experience working in financial institutions carrying out credit work for FI and/or structured finance area preferably within applicable sector verticals.
o Proven experience in FI / corporate banking and/or structured finance
o Significant supervisory experience of a credit risk group


Preferred:

o Sufficient experience in alternative area if an applicant being single-experienced for either corporate or structured finance.
o Proven experience in investment banking in credit or front office

Skills and Experience

o Extensive relevant industry experience with a deep area of credit specialism
o In depth knowledge of credit and risk principles, products, derivatives and management
o Extensive experience in dealing with regulatory audits associated to credit

o Advanced interpersonal skills with ability and experience to communicate to both senior (including executive) management and junior members of staff.
