We are seeking an advanced practitioner of English to develop and lead our curriculum in English.

Job Purpose

To work alongside the Head of English and Maths to develop flexible, responsive, and innovative English curriculum which meet the existing and emerging needs of all students.

To support teacher to develop innovative approaches to teaching and learning that further enhance outstanding and inclusive teaching, learning and assessment.

To act as a connector in developing strong partnerships between the English team and vocational curriculum teams to develop a joined up, inclusive and forward-looking curriculum which result in strong achievement rates.

Roles and responsibilities

Organise and develop an innovative English curriculum and approach to formative assessment for students studying English post-16.

Lead on curriculum design and development of the English curriculum, with a particular focus on innovation and successful practices that will support students re-taking English to make progress and achieve.

Provide inspiration and support for the English team to develop and implement new innovative teaching and learning opportunities, including on digital platforms.

Lead on continuous professional development and create opportunities for the English team to explore and develop innovative learning opportunities.

Develop an ethos of high expectations of staff and students in English, and a positive approach to curriculum innovation.

Lead on teaching and learning in English to develop pedagogy that will drive forward standards within the English team and provision.

Be proactive in supporting English teachers to create a stimulating and supportive learning environment which secures effective learning and challenges all students to high standards of engagement, behaviour, and motivation.

Advise the Head of Curriculum – English and Maths on the types of staff development needed to deliver and support the English team.

Devise, lead, and deliver whole staff professional development and training when necessary.

To work with vocational Heads of Curriculum to maximise student progress and support the raising of achievement in English.

To teach classes or groups of students for timetabled periods up to 9-hours per week.

Support the Head of Curriculum and Deputy Principal in the monitoring of the quality of teaching and student progress, including the analysis of performance and progress data.

Group Responsibilties

To maintain accurate records as required by the Head of Curriculum and College.

To work closely with staff from other College areas, ensuring compliance with procedures and deadlines.

To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably requested by the line manager or Deputy Principal or the CEO.

To comply with health and safety procedures.

To be aware of the College’s Equality and Diversity Policy and targets, and to promote equality of opportunity.

To ensure adherence with Risk Management Policy, notifying the line manager or appropriate manager of any risks.

To assist in the student journey from enrolment, initial diagnostic, progress tracking, quality assurance, and the management of exams.

To deal with the public, clients, students, and staff in an appropriate manner.

To ensure that appropriate records are kept, in accordance with college and external bodies’ requirements.

Be the first point of contact for student / parent queries.
