Are you looking for an environment that will help you flourish and progress into a bright future? This independent SEN School in Royston, Hertfordshire (SG8) is seeking teaching assistants and teaching staff. The position is full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm, and is a term-time role.
The school grounds sit on acres of land and offer generous space for all students. The school currently caters for students aged 5–16 who have an educational health care plan. Most students have a diagnosis of ASD, ADHD and other physical disabilities.
The role is challenging, yet incredibly rewarding.
Responsibilities
* Support students' learning, development, and progress across all areas of the curriculum, in a variety of settings (in the classroom, in the local environment, in the community).
* Help young people with a range of needs—including PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities), SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties), autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, physical and sensory impairments, and complex medical needs—to achieve their educational and personal goals.
* Participate in physical interventions when needed (behaviour that challenges; managing transitions; de-escalation, etc.).
* Help students with sensory issues—assisting them to manage sensory overload by using space, resources, calm environments, or breakout sensory areas.
* Promote emotional wellbeing by supporting low self-esteem, anxiety management, and confidence building.
* Assist with behaviour management—maintaining high behavioural expectations, intervening or supporting during difficult or challenging behaviours, and keeping records of behaviour/incidents.
* After a successful trial period, Aspire People will transfer teaching assistants to a permanent contract and enroll them in a two-week induction course covering Makaton, sensory learning tools, managing risk assessments, PRICE training, Lego therapy, and more.
Requirements and Qualifications
* Experience or interest in SEN education and supporting learners with diverse needs.
* Ability to participate in physical interventions and support transitions and de-escalation when needed.
* Willingness to support sensory and emotional wellbeing, and assist with behaviour management.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils.
