Job Description

Large Volume Inorganic Chemicals (LVIC) installations are required to use ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. We’ve established a process for the definition of BAT within the UK. The regime will use the BAT concept principles of a transparent, collaborative, data and evidence led process that safeguards and builds on the current high levels of environmental protection. Central to this process will be the UK BAT Author.

Responsibilities:

* Draft BAT Conclusions and develop new environmental standards for industry.
* Liaise with Technical Working Groups and present final documents suitable for publication.
* Maintain the UK BAT author role, supporting development plans and incident management objectives.
* Manage project deliverables, ensuring timely and effective results.
* Travel may be required as part of the role.

Requirements:

* At least 5 years working experience with environmental regulation within the LVIC industry.
* Specialist knowledge and understanding of the LVIC industry.
* Good understanding of process engineering, environmental issues.
* Strong understanding of environmental legislation and policy in the UK.
* Capability to critically analyse technical arguments and data.
* Excellent technical writing skills.
* Good project management skills and drive to complete.

Experience/skills:

* Collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data.
* Understanding the implications of BAT Conclusions in permits, on industry and the environment.
* Effective verbal and written communication.
* Building and maintaining relationships across sectors.
* Planning, prioritising and organising tasks and resources.
* Adapting to challenges and building consensus.
* Working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

Length of contract: up to 2 years from appointment.
