About the Team
The Highways and Planning legal team supports the County as a Highway Authority and Minerals and Waste Planning Authority. Our lawyers draft highways and planning agreements, advise on planning and highways enforcement, DCO work, appeals, litigation, and provide training for client teams.
About the Role
As a Senior Lawyer you will:
* Draft highways and planning agreements, countryside and highway enforcement documents, and mineral planning advice.
* Advise on general highways and planning issues, local government matters, Commons, Village Greens, Public Rights of Way, drainage and flooding.
* Manage appeals and related litigation, including s78 TCPA 1990 appeals and s106 agreements.
* Provide clear, practical and solutions‑focused advice to a range of clients and to the County’s Planning and Regulatory Committee.
* Deputise for the Principal Lawyer when required.
* Supervise paralegal and solicitor roles and manage competing priorities to meet client deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
* Solicitor, Barrister or Fellowship of CILEX with a current practising certificate in England and Wales.
* Recent legal experience in highways and planning law.
* Strong client‑advising skills and the ability to negotiate a range of legal agreements.
* Excellent team working, time‑management and the capacity to take on urgent, short‑notice matters.
* Ability to manage competing priorities to achieve client deadlines.
