About the business division

The Water Utilities Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to the UK and Ireland's water and wastewater challenges. The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations, preventing urban flooding, and improving the health of our rivers and coastal environments. Our multi-disciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies to outline and detailed design. Together, we deliver best-in-class solutions to our clients while offering diverse and technically stimulating opportunities to our people.


Role overview

We are seeking experienced electrical, instrumentation, control and automation (EICA) engineers for our multidisciplinary Water Division. You will work on a wide range of design projects across areas such as:

* Water treatment
* Water distribution
* Wastewater recycling
* Industrial process water
* Desalination
* Irrigation
* Hydropower
* Flood defence

We cover all phases of the project lifecycle from feasibility through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning to handover. You will provide specialist technical support to colleagues across our global business and have opportunities to engage in diverse, technically challenging work. Our clients include most UK water utility companies, and many other governmental and private organisations in the UK and overseas.


Responsibilities

Providing leadership and mentoring to other electrical engineers, you will:

* Check and review design documents and provide technical direction to projects
* Ensure designs are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards
* Lead the integration of electrical & ICA design with other disciplines
* Build strong relationships with clients and contractors to enhance the company’s reputation and secure further work


Candidate specification

You will be knowledgeable about a wide range of EICA tasks, typically including:

* Electrical power distribution design
* Control system design
* Specifying local renewable and back-up generation systems
* Developing plant layouts
* Cabling and installation design
* Instrumentation selection
* Lightning protection assessment
* Writing system control strategies
* Factory and site acceptance tests of equipment

Essential:

* Qualified to HND level or higher in electrical, electronic or control engineering or a related discipline
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
* Understanding of the importance of prioritising health, safety, and environmental issues
* Experience of successfully delivering high quality outputs in accordance with design, quality and safety standards

Desirable:

* Master’s degree in electrical, electronic or control engineering or a related discipline
* Chartered status with the Institution of Engineering and Technology or an equivalent body
* Experience of working in the water and/or wastewater industry
* Good understanding of pipeline hydraulics
* Good understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes
