Purpose of the Role: The NPI Engineer is a new product development role focusing on design for manufacturing and assembly principles to allow successful and efficient transition from design into production. Positioned between production and engineering teams, this role is the main technical interface between the two and includes post design support work for products in production. Reporting to the Production Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for liaising with Engineering, Production and project teams to achieve the successful introduction of new products and the continued manufacturing support of our diverse product range. This will: Reduce the need for product re-spins. Improve the build efficiency and costs in Production. Provide consistency and clarity of manufacturing documentation. Provide a clear and efficient link between Engineering and Production teams. McLaren Applied (MA) is in the process of switching to Aegis Industrial Software Corporation's FactoryLogix Manufacturing Execution System (MES) into its electronics manufacturing facility for the presenting assembly documentation. Role Dimensions: The role will require overtime during peak periods or as projects demand to ensure the delivery of key objectives and responsibilities is achieved. Principal Accountabilities: Responsible for successful delivery the NPI Advance 2 deliverables. Supporting the engineering team in the development of new products and readying them for handover to the Production department. Providing & coordinating DFM (Design for Manufacture), DFA (Design for Assembly) and DFT (Design for Test) inputs on NPI designs. Manage the build of prototype units, translating the programme delivery requirements into an operational build plan, identifying constraints in resource and equipment, feeding it back into the programme for alignment. Support prototype builds whilst documenting the process and creating content-rich documents, including interactive 3D models and videos, with the emphasis on creating clear and concise assembly instructions. Lead prototype & post-production build reviews. Migrate existing document packages over to the new format. Work closely with design teams (electronic and mechanical) to ensure smooth and optimised new product introduction (NPI) into manufacturing and production readiness for prototype and production builds. Undertake PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis) on new product developments. Identification and development of specialised equipment and tooling to improve Production efficiencies and quality.
