We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Formulation Chemist / Scientist with strong understanding of HSE, COSHH, and quality standards in a production environment as well as proven experience in formulation chemistry.
Working as a Formulation Chemist / Scientist you will oversee a small but capable manufacturing team (currently 2 full-time staff) and ensure production operations meet the highest standards for quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
As a Formulation Chemist / Scientist you will be in a hands-on, senior-level role with a blend of technical and managerial responsibilities with a rare opportunity to influence the technical direction and shape the future of the company as they scale.

DUTIES
Your duties as a Formulation Chemist / Scientist will include:
1. Develop and optimise formulations for liquid plant fertilisers and homecare products
2. Continuously improve existing formulations for performance, stability, and cost-efficiency
3. Manage and maintain accurate formulation documentation, MSDS files, and product specifications
4. Establish and enforce robust quality control procedures for all product lines
5. Monitor and analyse batch quality; maintain detailed records for traceability
6. Lead all aspects of chemical handling, storage, and usage in line with HSE guidance, COSHH, and internal policies
7. Create and update risk assessments and oversee health & safety practices across manufacturing operations
8. Supervise and support the manufacturing team, ensuring smooth daily operations
9. Provide training and guidance on best manufacturing practices and quality standards
10. Troubleshoot production issues (blending, bottling, raw materials) and implement process improvements
11. Source high-quality raw materials and packaging components at competitive prices
12. Manage relationships with suppliers for chemicals, packaging, and production equipment
13. Ensure product labelling and packaging meet UK and EU compliance requirements
14. Cross-functional Support
15. Act as the technical lead for internal stakeholders, including sales and customer support teams
16. Contribute to the product development roadmap and future innovation plans
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
17. Degree (or higher) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
18. Proven experience in formulation chemistry, ideally within fertilisers, agricultural chemicals, or homecare products
19. Strong understanding of HSE, COSHH, and quality standards in a production environment
20. Hands-on leadership style, ideally with experience managing or mentoring small teams
21. Highly organised, with excellent problem-solving and communication skills
