Job Overview
This post is a fixed‑term secondment for 6 months to meet the needs of the service. Prior to applying you must obtain permission from your current line manager.
The post holder is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence‑based nursing care, working collaboratively and co‑operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.
Assist in the management and organisation of the clinical area and participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.
Main duties of the job
* All applicants must be a Registered Nurse, with recent experience at Band 5 and meet the Band 6 job specification. Experience in both pathways is essential.
* The position involves working as a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse on Ward 7 Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward.
* Provide mentorship of student nurses and preceptorship of newly qualified nurses while supporting ward sisters and ensuring the Fundamentals of Care are maintained to a high standard.
* Welsh speaking is desirable; Welsh and English speakers are equally welcome.
Person Specification
Essential criteria
* NMC Registered Nurse
* Advanced Life Support or willingness to undertake APLS training
Desirable criteria
* Degree in Nursing or a relevant clinical/professional subject
* Alert, Raat, APLS, PLS experience
Experience
Essential criteria
* Significant post‑registration experience at Band 5
* Experience within an appropriate clinical area
Desirable criteria
* Experience of undertaking audit work and setting standards
Skills and Competence
Essential criteria
* Evidence of good ward organisational skills
* Problem solver
* Negotiation and communication skills with patients and MDT team members
* IT skills: email, Word, Myddryn, Oracle, TPATH
Desirable criteria
* Advanced clinical skills – venepuncture, phlebotomy, ECG
* Ability to adapt and propose changes in the working situation
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Evidence of knowledge and application of consent, data protection, and patient confidentiality
* Knowledge of local policies, procedures and guidelines
Desirable criteria
* Experience with interview and appraisal processes
* Knowledge of management theories
