Through this we’re determined to be one of Wales leading inclusive employers. We’re creating an inclusive transport network that everyone in Wales can be proud of.

Who we are

At Transport for Wales, we’re on a mission to transform transport in Wales and make it fit for the future, whether that’s rail, bus, walking or cycling. We want to inspire a nation to change the way it travels, so that we all travel more sustainably and help to combat the climate emergency we’re all facing. We’re an open and inclusive place to work, where everyone is welcome and our people are supported to reach their full potential. We want to create an environment where our people can grow and succeed. This is key to enabling us to deliver on the promises we’ve made to the people of Wales to build a sustainable transport network that meets their needs.

Role responsibilities

To lead on the auditing of external suppliers. Ensuring their compliance with legal and TFW standards and accurately recording this information. Developing and maintaining a process for the periodic review of operator compliance as well as completing ad hoc reviews/audits both in person and remotely.

* Lead the development of a structured supplier audit programme, working collaboratively with internal stakeholders to design a planned schedule of assessments across the operator pool.
* Deliver and maintain the supplier audit process on an ongoing basis, conducting scheduled, risk‑based, for‑cause, and ad hoc audits to monitor compliance and service quality.
* Plan and conduct site visits to TfW‑appointed Rail Replacement Operators to assess compliance with key SLAs and support the delivery of high‑quality customer service.
* Engage directly with operators and stakeholders in the field, completing audits face‑to‑face, remotely, or on‑site, providing clear feedback and supporting the implementation of corrective actions. This includes travel across the TfW network and occasional weekend working.
* Work collaboratively with operators, ensuring a shared understanding of audit outcomes and required actions, and proactively support them to embed best practice and raise operational standards.
* Act as the internal subject matter expert (SME) for all matters related to road transport compliance, providing advice, insight, and guidance to colleagues across TfW.
* Collaborate with the TfW Safety Team to ensure audit activities align with safety policies, procedures, and expectations—supporting a ‘One TfW’ approach to operational assurance and continuous improvement.
* Monitor changes in legislation and regulation within the bus and coach industry, ensuring the audit process remains current and informing relevant teams across TfW of any implications.
* Analyse audit findings and trends, producing regular reports and dashboards that highlight areas of risk, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement to inform decision‑making across the road transport function.
* Support internal knowledge sharing, contributing to the development and delivery of training or briefing sessions to communicate compliance expectations, audit insights, and best practices.
* Contribute to the development and optimisation of digital tools and systems used to manage audit processes, records, and reporting, ensuring they are fit for purpose and user‑friendly.
* Work with the Risk and Assurance team to ensure audit findings are reflected in organisational risk registers where appropriate, and that mitigation actions are tracked and followed up.
