Foundation pharmacists work on a rotational basis. Training and supervision are provided through collaborative initiatives between Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT) and Devon Partnership NHS Trust.
The rotation includes medicines optimisation services across acute and community hospitals, intermediate care, and mental health settings. The role develops and utilises the clinical and professional skills defined in the South Devon Pharmacist Foundation Programme to provide clinical pharmacist input across all healthcare sectors.

Band: 6 – £38,682 to £46,580 per year pro rata (Agenda for Change)

Responsibilities
* You will act within professional boundaries, working in the pharmacy team and alongside multidisciplinary healthcare teams in each rotational placement.
* Work on a rotational basis, gaining competencies and experience as defined by the Foundation Programme. In each rotation you will be supported, mentored, and managed by senior clinical pharmacy staff.
* Practice safely and autonomously at a foundation level within each rotation specialty (competencies and timeframes for assessment are defined in the Foundation Programme handbook).
* Provide clinically appropriate, patient‑centred, evidence‑based, and cost‑effective pharmaceutical care in all rotational placements.
* Engage with the Foundation Programme to develop a wide range of clinical and professional skills across various healthcare settings, actively utilising skills to support multidisciplinary teams.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Masters Degree in Pharmacy
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Desirable
* Specialised training in clinical pharmacy
* Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
Special Experience
* Experience and understanding of clinical pharmacy in any sector
* Previous participation in quality improvement and/or audit projects
* Experience in acute, intermediate, and primary care settings
* Understanding of the role of medicines optimisation teams across all settings, including mental health
Skills
* Good communication skills (written and verbal) – proven ability to communicate with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals at all levels.
* Organisational, time‑management, and prioritisation skills.
* Strong teamwork abilities (both intra‑ and inter‑disciplinary).
