Job Type: Fixed term contract -12 months
Location:This role could be based in either our Wythall, Telford, London or Edinburgh offices with time spent working in the office and at home. All roles are advertised as open to part-time and job-share using the statement below. You can read more about Phoenix Flex here
Salary and benefits:£70,000 to £94,000 dependant on experience plus 16% bonus up to 32%, private medical cover, 38 days annual leave, excellent pension, 12x salary life assurance, career breaks, income protection, 3x volunteering days and much more
We have an exciting fixed term contract opportunity for qualified actuary to join the Insurance Risk Team and learn about the different areas of insurance risk including longevity, persistency and expenses.

The role
The team looks after a number of high profile assumptions which are key to the financial success of Phoenix. So maybe you would like to see first hand how important the longevity assumptions are to the value of one of the largest annuity books in the UK and see how we model the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 on mortality rates and longevity risk capital.Or help take a lead in setting the assumptions for our expenses, where you will be keeping up to date with all the projects that Phoenix undertakes so you get an oversight of all parts of our evolving business. Alternatively maybe you want to understand more about our persistency assumptions for new and existing products and what drives customer behaviour.
* Lead a team of actuaries and actuarial analysts to deliver assumptions to support valuation and pricing.
* Contribute to the specification, development and testing of complex propositions or numerical models, analysing a range of business data, making recommendations to Senior Actuaries and/or senior management to support decision making.
* Contribute to the preparation of papers and reports for senior management and executives as required, with suitable supervision.
* Lead small scale projects or elements of large scale more complex projects to support the business.
* Act as actuarial subject matter expert on strategic business or Group level projects to ensure specialist input is provided to business decision making.
* Communicate effectively with a technical actuarial audience and simplify communications of technical issues to a non-technical audience.
* Continually look to enhance processes and procedures to deliver effective solutions for the business.
* Provide technical leadership in key areas of expertise and represent business area appropriately within cross divisional projects.
* Apply a high level of knowledge and understanding of technical software, regulation, proposition, systems and processes and changes in the external market place as relevant for role.
* Maintaining up to date regulatory, business & professional knowledge in an environment of fast moving regulatory change.
* Maintaining breadth and depth of technical understanding to meet Continuing Professional Development requirements.
* Applying commercial understanding of the business to ensure financial, business & actuarial advice is aligned with the business needs.
* Communicating complex concepts and recommendations to multiple stakeholders across the business both in the UK and potentially globally.
* Regularly working to defined and tight timescales whilst maintaining professional standards.
* Balancing business demand, issues and risks by applying sound judgement in complex scenarios, often with considerable uncertainty.
