Job Summary: Strategic comms and engagement across large organisations. Ability to build relationships with HMRC Corporate Comms, central stakeholder teams, and crossdirectorate partners. Skilled in designing governance, routing, and approvals for HMRC-wide and external messaging. Strong judgement and risk awareness around policy, reputation, and crossgovernment alignment. Coaching and capability uplift. Essential Criteria: For this role we ideally need an individual with: Significant experience defining and setting up a high-performing private office function Significant experience operating at senior executive level within the public sector (Director s Private Office, Chief of Staff, Senior Private Secretary) Solid understanding of the demands of a high-performing DPO and importance of balancing core delivery with emerging political and operational pressures Proven ability to anticipate risks, manage competing priorities, and respond effectively to emerging issues Strong understanding of public sector governance and accountability frameworks Excellent track record defining and managing processes to ensure decisions are properly documented, assured, and aligned with organisational and statutory obligations Proven experience establishing DPO (or similar) structure and processes that set clear prioritisation, manage workflow, and maintain resilience during periods of intense pressure or scrutiny Confidence to challenge constructively and provide honest, impartial advice to a Director Excellent track record delivering measurable capability and skills uplift Strong team leadership and team building skills
