CAD Technician UK Defence Academy, Swindon, SN6 8LA Permanent, Full time, Mon-Thurs 8am-4pm, Fri 8am-3:30pm £28,000 – £35,000 depending upon experience We are looking for a CAD Technician to join the ever-growing team at the UK Defence Academy based in Swindon. As part of your role, you will take ownership of the control and management of key Estates documentation, with a particular focus on the Technical Library and Drawing Register. Strong CAD skills are essential, as you will be required to produce simple drawings and carry out modifications to existing CAD files. You will also play a crucial role in supporting the successful delivery of projects and estate drawings, ensuring that Serco meets its contractual obligations on time, within budget, and to a fully auditable standard. Main responsibilities: CAD duties as follows: Interpret instructions from line management regarding technical production of drawings. Translate standard and proprietary details into working drawings. Ensure the dimensional accuracy and compliance with available drawings and specifications of information issued. Preparing design data for issue at the request of senior staff e.g. printing drawings, n preparation of documents and calculations. Use 2D CAD to produce mechanical/construction engineering and general arrangement drawings in support of the site assets resulting in the production of detailed design drawings and information using latest AutoCAD. Assist with setting up and running a site based CAD register of site assets. Peer check detail drawings produced internally and by third parties. Contribute to improvements and standardisation of our processes. Work well unsupervised and possess leadership qualities. Practically-minded approach. Ensure that Group Standards and Quality standards are complied with. Coordinating design information between supply chains. Site visits – Check measure of existing layout of services within the assets. Able to measure and transfer as gathered information into asset information. Ensure any issues/queries are dealt with in timely manner to keep projects within lead times. Document Control and Management duties as follows: Responsible for the efficient delivery of the full range of asset management services including the control of the Estates Department library & archive that are fully compliant with statutory, MOD and contractual requirements. This archive is stored in the form of an electronic CAFM facilities management system and it associated hard building logs, operation & maintenance manuals & safety files. The post holder will be a competent user for the Facilities Management (FM) specific software which forms the foundation of a diverse and busy FM service. The up keep of all certification & documents stored both in CAFM and the site document library. Receipt and checking of statutory and mandatory certification prior to scanning into CAFM and filing in the site document library. Logging and checking in of all O&M manuals relating to project hand over of assets that require the CAFM system to be updated and PPM tasks added to the asset. Archiving of any remedial and reactive works documentation. The movement control of all documents being delivered and removed from the library. Maintain the site document library control log. Report all in document deficiencies to line management. Report any system deficiencies and opportunities for improvement to line management. Support the compliance advisor team in the collation of audit reports and ensure that relevant asset information is provided to ensure that audits can be closed off in a timely manner. Work with the projects and operations teams to ensure that documents being submitted to the library are where practical standardised. Live the agreed values and behaviours of the Estates Management team. Ensure that all library operations are carried out as per the Health and Safety Act 1974 and its regulations in addition to Serco health & safety policies and procedures. Support the Head of Operations in covering the Library between the sites contracted c ore hours of 08:00 & 18:00 on a team rota basis. What you’ll need to do the role: Good level of experience and competent user of AutoCAD. HND in Arcitectural Technology or similar. Demonstrable experience in similar roles including document control and CAD. Good level of general education, preferably with GCSE’s (A-C) or equivalent in English and Maths. PC literate with competent knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience of operating in an estates facilities management and document control environment. Knowledge and experience of CAFM systems in hard FM and estates environment. Organised and pro-active with the ability to work alone or as part of a team. Experience of working within a similar role within the public sector and/or MOD on sites would be advantageous. Knowledge/understanding of general office practices. Ability to demonstrate electronic calendar management. Ability to communicate at all levels, using a variety of communication methods (spoken, written, behaviour). Ability to cope under pressure. Ability to proactively manage own workload. Proven organisational skills and problem solving skills. Flexible and adaptable to change. High level attention to detail/accuracy. Methodical and analytical approach. Confidence to challenge convention and work under own direction where appropriate.
