Regulation of the energy sectors is critical to delivering Net Zero and protecting the environment. This role focuses on providing expert support and technical leadership to ensure effective regulation of combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries.
Position
This is a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for an individual with experience working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for the sectors and produce the tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
Incident Support
Respond to incidents as a central part of the role. You will be asked to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
Team & Technical Expertise
* Strategic direction and tools in support of regulation of the energy sectors.
* Guidance and training to deliver new duties.
* Environmental best practice.
Experience & Skills
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role, gained either by working within and/or regulating relevant processes, including knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
Additional Details
Length of contract: up to 2 years.
Interviews will be held in person in Birmingham by the end of November.
The role will require some travel.
