Wabtec Transit Services is seeking an experienced Buyer to support day‑to‑day procurement activities at our Birkenhead site during a period of increased operational demand. This role ensures continuity of supply and stable operational performance within a fast‑paced engineering and manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Manage daily purchasing of materials, components, and services.
Raise, track, and expedite purchase orders to meet production schedules.
Maintain stock levels and support planning teams with material availability updates.
Act as the main point of contact for allocated suppliers, monitoring performance and resolving issues.
Support cost‑saving initiatives and alternative sourcing options.
Collaborate with production, planning, engineering, and quality teams to resolve supply constraints.
Maintain accurate data in ERP/MRP systems and produce basic procurement reports.
Skills & Experience
Purchasing or supply chain experience within manufacturing, engineering, aerospace, automotive, or rail.
Strong communication, negotiation, and supplier management capability.
Comfortable working in a fast‑moving environment with changing priorities.
ERP/MRP experience (SAP, Oracle, or similar).
Understanding of commercial procurement principles.
