About the Role
We are recruiting for a Payroll Manager to join a long-established, family-owned who have been in business for over 20 years. This role is pivotal in ensuring that employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with all payroll legislation and financial regulations. You will manage end-to-end payroll processing across multiple departments, supporting continuous improvements and efficiencies in payroll processes.
Working closely with HR and Finance, you will be responsible for maintaining strong controls, managing queries, and ensuring the smooth running of the payroll function within a fast-paced, high-volume environment. This position would suit someone with solid payroll management experience who thrives in a hands-on role and enjoys taking ownership of payroll processes.
Key Responsibilities for the Role:
Manage end-to-end payroll processing for weekly and monthly payrolls across multiple areas of the business.
Prepare and validate payroll data including starters, leavers, salary changes, absences, and deductions.
Oversee pension contributions and administration, including tri-annual re-enrolment duties in compliance with The Pension Regulator.
Submit Real Time Information (RTI) returns to HMRC on time.
Act as the primary point of contact for payroll queries, resolving discrepancies and liaising with colleagues and management.
Produce payroll reports for Finance, HR, and senior leadership as required.
Maintain and improve payroll systems and processes to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
Support integration of payroll with time and attendance and accounting systems.
Maintain payroll policies and procedures, updating documentation regularly.
Assist in providing payroll data for statutory audits and HMRC compliance checks.
Support a culture of continuous improvement, implementing new processes and controls to enhance payroll efficiency.
What we are looking for:
Minimum 3 years' experience in a payroll role, ideally in a high-volume or fast-paced environment.
Strong UK payroll knowledge with a deep understanding of legislation and compliance.
Experience with payroll software, preferably Sage 50 Payroll.
Excellent IT and Excel skills, with strong analytical capability.
Highly organised with attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines.
Confident, professional, and able to handle sensitive information with discretion.
Ability to work under pressure and adapt to a changing environment.
